Make sure there is dns 8.8.8.8 For some reason there are now problems with dns like 1.1.1.1.

43Rageon commented 1 day ago

I have been having this problem with SmartTube for the last 3 days. I can see my playlists and subscribed channels, but no videos appear in the subscriptions section, there are texts telling me to log in. Interestingly, I have a similar problem with the YouTube add-on on Kodi, it does not play any videos.

I didn't make any DNS settings, I couldn't understand why it was broken.

zkabelac commented 1 day ago

@43Rageon Youtube seems to be now using some new links that are not properly translated to IP addresses - DNS (configurable on your device or router) configured to i.e. Google's 8.8.8.8 resolved the issue for me (until the maintainers of DNS like 1.1.1.1 fix their resolving) and this also fixed Youtube app for LG TV itself...

pombinhosdead commented 1 day ago

I was having this issue, updating the app fixes the bug.

zkabelac commented 1 day ago

hmm and for me now even with 8.8.8.8 it has stopped to work - and it also does not work with official youtube AndroidTV apk as well as youtube app on a TV. But i.e. Android phone with youtube app on the same network works normally. IMHO definitively Google is doing something.... (And yes I've even updated to 24.71 today's release).

So continued looking into this - and enabling IPv6 network on the Shield - makes YT working (my network provider has usable IPv6) - so maybe IPv6 network is now mandatory for YT to authenticate ? Disabling IPv6 on the Shield makes YT unusable again (also for the official youtube apk)

43Rageon commented 1 day ago

I hadn't done the latest update, it was fixed when I installed it. If your app is not up to date, update it, maybe it will be fixed.

@43Rageon you likely clearly had a different problem - the error message as seen on the 1st. picture here is the issue on the topic here - and it's a sign you can't even log-in. In your case you were logged in but in this case reauthorization of youtube google account will simply always fail. And also - as mentioned before I'm always testing everything with the latest version available (which was 24.71 as stated above).

As of today - I can again disable IPv6 on my Shield and also use 'native' Youtube app on LG TV - so whatever experiment Google was doing with its login interface, it likely has been finished and they restored original 'usability' (at least for now).

So IMHO there was no bug in SmartTube - just some 'experiment' for logging service....

What helped me was disconnecting my TV box from the home Wi-Fi and then sharing the internet from my mobile phone via a hotspot. Then I connected the TV box to the phone's internet, and everything worked smoothly — I was able to log in and no errors. Afterwards, I reconnected my TV box to my home Wi-Fi, and everything continued to work perfectly. It is definitely NOT a SmartTube issue.

zkabelac commented 12 hours ago

@Noiczzz - I guess that's because usually phones these days have IPv6 always working - so yeah - that's likely why this has solved problem in your case.

Oh, so that's what it was! It felt like a miracle because nothing else had helped, and I was becoming desperate. Thank you for explaining why this worked for me. I hope this little trick can help someone else too. Good luck, everyone! :)
