STN can’t play videos anymore? (since three-ish days ago) #837

Hi,

Been using STN for a while now. A few days ago (maybe beginning of this week, or so), it stopped working. I can launch it just fine, but no videos will show up (only the spinning thingie in the middle of the screen). Happens for all the different categories (“Home”, “Music”, “Gaming”, “Subscriptions”, etc).

If I leave it like that, after a good while (several minutes), the videos start to show. Sometimes with thumbnails, sometimes without. When trying to play a video, it just sits there. Stuck. Black screen, but the player info at the bottom is there (play/pause, video title, number of views, etc).

Tried to log out of my account. Launching the app without being logged in has the same result. Trying to log back in again, it’s stuck with “Loading user script…” or similar (and not actually showing the code).

Asked a friend to try his STN as well. Same problem there. We are both located in Norway. Tried changing “Country” from “Default” to ”Norwegian”, and restarted the app. No luck.

Using STN 12.33 on Nvidia Shield.

Is this a common issue, or is it localized? What could be the cause of this behaviour?

To add to the “sometimes no thumbnail”; if there are no thumbnail in the video overview, starting playback of a video (black screen/not starting), and then hit back, all the thumbnails for all the videos load just fine.

Also, after the initial slow load of videos, I can change to the other categories without delay. Same with thumbnails; once the initial “no thumbnail” is fixed, it’s fixed for all thumbnails in all categories.

If I connect the Shield to a hotspot on my phone, it seems to work. This suggests that it might be issues locally on my network. However, there has been no changes to that, and other clients on the same network can use YouTube just fine (either in browser, or by using the official YouTube app). This, in theory, constrains the issue to be specifically STN on my local network.

I have a NGFW and Pihole on my local network, but even when bypassing them (by disabling inspection for the Shield client and disabling Pihole alltogether), the issue still persists. Looking at the logs on both the firewall and the Pihole, it seems like the only thing I can see, is that the Shield (or STN directly) tries to do DNS-over-TLS (port 853), which I do not have configured on my local network (but might be available when connecting to the hotspot on my phone). I'll have to dig deeper to see if it could be related.

To follow up on this one;

Conclusion; it’s IPv6-related. It does receive IPv6 from hotspot on phone, so it’s specifically related to IPv6 on my home network. I can’t think of any changes that was done on that part, so not sure how this would affect STN like this.

Almost the same problem with STN when I enabled my IPv6 network in China. Seems that still not fixed yet.
