Do sappers trigger the Incanter's Absorption and/or Frost Warding?

Take the talent Incanter's Absorption in Arcane that causes you to gain spell power based on a percentage of damage that a Fire/Frost Ward absorbs. There are some posts from deep into the internet (mmo-champion) saying that at some point in WotLK, an Arcane Mage with Engineering could put 3 points into Incanter's Absorption, pop a Fire Ward and a Mana Shield before the boss is pulled, then use a Thermonuclear Sapper Charge on pull alongside trinkets to force the talent to proc ~300 spell damage.

We can take this test one step further by also checking out Frost Warding and seeing if we get mana back.

Preparation

• Talent into Incanter's Absorption
• Unequip all gear (you should start the test with 0 spellpower)
• Have engineering and a variety of sapper charges

Test Steps

• Run the command "/combatlog"
• Open Character Sheet
• Cast Fire Ward
• Use Sapper (Goblin Sapper or Thermonuclear Sapper)
• Screenshot your character sheet spellpower and any buffs gained
• Run the command "/combatlog"
• Upload log to Warcraftlogs and note date/time + test in log title

Respec out of Incanter's Absorption, and spec into Frost Warding. NOTE: the frost warding talent only has a 30% chance to proc, so this next test may take a few attempts before we see success

• Run the command "/combatlog"
• Cast Arcane Explosion a few times to bring mana to ~50%
• Cast Fire Ward
• Use Sapper (Goblin Sapper or Thermonuclear Sapper)
• Run the command /combatlog
• Upload log to Warcraftlogs and note date/time + test in log title

Respec again - this time into both Frost Warding and Incanter's Absorption. NOTE: again, because Frost Warding has a 30% chance to proc, we may need several tests before we see what we're looking for. The theory is we won't be able to proc Frost Warding and Incanter's Absorption at the same time, so we want a test where we successfully proc Frost Warding, and then we need to see if we gain the Incanter's Absorption buff(s).

• Run the command "/combatlog"
• Open Character Sheet
• Cast Arcane Explosion a few times to bring mana to ~50%
• Cast Fire Ward
• Use Sapper (Goblin Sapper or Thermonuclear Sapper)
• Screenshot your character sheet spellpower and any buffs gained (make mental note to see if mana jumped)
• Run the command "/combatlog"
• Upload log to Warcraftlogs and note date/time + test in log title
