WiildOs: graphic environment does not start #32

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot from a Live DVD
2. Select language (Italian in my case)
3. Select "Try WiildOs without installing"

After the splash screen and some seconds of blinking dots, a terminal appears,
with:

--------------------Terminal output begin -----------------------------
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service S20irqbalance start

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start S20irqbalance
start: Unknown job: S20irqbalance
 * Starting the Winbind daemon winbind
 * Starting bluetooth
Starting preload: preload.
 * Checking battery state...
To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>".
See "man sudo_root" for details.

wiildos@wiildos:~$
--------------------Terminal output end -------------------------------

If I try to "startlubuntu" or "startlxde" I get no output.
If I try to "start lxdm" I get the following error:

start: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call",
sender=":1.11" (uid=999 pid=3399 comm="start lxdm ")
interface=com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Job" member="Start" error name="(unset)"
requested_reply=0 destination="com.ubuntu.Upstart" (uid=0 pid=1
comm="/sbin/init"))

The other virtual consoles (Ctrl+Alt+F2...F6) show a blinking cursor,
Ctrl+Alt+F7 shows nothing.

Seems that the lxdm program is not started. The output of startlubuntu
startlxde and start lxdm is "normal" in the sense that even in lubuntu will
occur.
Try to give the command
# sudo lxdm

In some machine so do I have this problem but I have not idea about what is
this problem. I have tested tha same iso on virtualbox, on usb and it does not
occur.
On some computer with a DVD it occurs. I have a cospirative idea that the
ubuntu init is bugged and sometimes start the lxdm service and sometime not.
It is possible that I am done something wrong but is pretty strange that the
iso inside a virtual machine start the lxdm but in some real one no!
Please inform me if you have some success!
If the problem is the lxdm you can open the iso and add in /etc/rc.local to
start lxdm
You can found a little guide to use uck in order to modify the iso in the wiki
page

A quick and dirty workaround can be add to /etc/rc.local

these lines:

#Start lxdm if it is not already started
sudo service lxdm start

This is aproblem common in lubuntu/ubuntu casper package.
See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/854837
I have workarounded this startng lxdm in the rc.local also; this force to show
the graphical environment
