@6r1d appreciate the feedback, that's great to hear. However, I'm curious why media converters would have any effect on connection to the telcos, or why they would care about "compatible" converters.
SFP modules should be the only active components exchanging signals with the OLT.
I've no idea either; my guess is that could be caused by unnecessarily complicated structure around proprietary USB drivers for some devices that convert SFP+ to USB.
But it could be also caused by some factor of the more normal Ethernet networking hardware we're missing. (For instance, ONTi device did not work with my RJ-45 module from Ampcom, so no RJ-45 - to - RJ-45 conversion for me. :D) Maybe there may be some more realistic aspects of compatibility, then. Like some SFP+ module not working with some device, essentially.
Time will tell.
The courier brought the 2.5G ONTi's media converter, so I immediately replaced it, using an automatic mode.
The difference in measurements before and after the change falls within the margin of error. :-)
I've remembered this small thing that I found curious.
I am using a media converter to connect the Ethernet port to an SFP+ mentioned in the repo; when I was calling the provider, I've heard that they have a list of "tested / compatible" media converters. They had mentioned TP-Link and were quite surprised to hear about my ONTi device: "is this a real company, are you sure you aren't missing something?".
So, my ONTi device from AliExpress works well, as, I expect, any media converter with SFP+ would. Delivery was fast, too.
I plan to also try these two with Partner's network:
