Original Campaign - some messages appear in english #167

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
(please provide as much detail as possible)
1. At start of the level 16: Tulipscent; a message with the "I" green icon
appear saying (in spanish) "the avatar and its allies have been defeated, but
his power over this land persists, get ready."

This message belongs perhaps to level 20?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Original issue reported on code.google.com by tempri2...@gmail.com on 11 Nov 2013 at 4:16

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I fixed that recently, but it seems the new scripts are placed in incorrect
folder in the nightly build package ("campgns/keeporig" instead of "levels").

I will change the folder, so the nightly build from next night should fix that.

In this level I see a new Message talking about "Must obey" Spell; but appears
in english when I have the game in spanish (night build r878).

Yes, this string is new, so it lacks translation to many languages.

Anyone could become translator and translate that string - you just need to
install POEdit (it's a free tool) and you may open .po files which contain
translations.

All .po files are here:
https://code.google.com/p/keeperfx/source/browse/#svn%2Ftrunk%2Fkeeperfx%2Flang

just for curiosity; I see this:

: guitext:202
msgctxt "Level name"
msgid "Eversmile"
msgstr "Eversmile"

If I change "Eversmile" and write something else; that will appear in the game
on the map (pressing "M")?

Original comment by tempri2...@gmail.com on 12 Nov 2013 at 4:10

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Yes, that's exactly what would happen if you changed that.

Of course you won't be able to test it yourself, unless you know how to
generate .dat file out of the .po file.

But it's enough if you will just send me .po file, and .dat will be generated
automatically with next nightly build.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
That´s interesting; although I think do not need to be changed as the narrator
even says "Eversmile" without any translation.

In the other hand, for some reason the Warlock was not translated into
"Hechicero", as they did in Dungeon Keeper 2.

Hi. I came here again because I want to complete the translation of Spanish
texts that for now appears only in English (like the "Must obey" info). I also
want to fix the texts of the hidden levels (like the famous "Rick the
barbarian").

But before I start doing anything I have some questions:

1º: Is someone already doing this?

2º: In the hidden levels in spanish said "Rick the barbarian". In english said
"A legendary warrior". I guess in the rest of the hidden levels the text also
said the truth, right?

3º: In the spanish part I saw a line simply saying "Blindaje:"
In the english part said "Armour: This lowers the amount of damage a creature
takes each time it is hit, and provides complete immunity to electric shocks."

This is the message when you look the info of some creature with the armour
spell Right? (for example, looking at the horned reaped which can cast "armour"
by himself).

4º: I see some lines who said): "Miedo: Sin usar" ("Fear: No use" in english).
In the english part "Fear" has a description. Is necessary translate those
lines too? (or simply translate it for completing)

Original comment by tempri2...@gmail.com on 16 Jun 2014 at 12:55

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
1º: Noone reported doing that.

2º: English texts were updated to tell truth, and POEdit automatically marked
messages for other languages as "fuzzy" - so that they are translated in the
game, but require fixing to fully correspond english meaning.

3º: Some references to manual were replaced by shortened content of the
manual. Again, POEdit marked these as "fuzzy".

''This is the message when you look the info of some creature with the armour
spell Right?''
Yes.

4º: It is best to translate these, as the spell may become useable in KeeperFX.

Also, note that there is quite extensive tutorial on translating on the wiki:
https://code.google.com/p/keeperfx/wiki/TextLangMain

Thanks. I have a question.

When I download the .po file and open it with poedit I get an error message.
"The file can be opened
The file may be corrupt or in a format that poedit does not recognize"

I asked for help to some guy. He send me the file and it works, but If I try
download it doesn't work (same happens with other languages).

I can see how the original file is over 180 Kbs, but when I download it is like
1 Mb.
I guess I'm doing something wrong. (I enter into the "Lang" folder and right
click and save the gtext_spa.po file).

You are downloading a web page instead of the file.

Click on the file and use a link to download raw version.

I have 2 questions.

I started playing with the complete 0.4.5 Keeperfx, paying attention to the
texts.

In the first level, when the first wave died the game said "Savour your first
victory while you can. You have attracted the wrath of the Lord of this realm.
His party will soon be here." (In spanish is something similar).

But only the lord of the land appears (without more heroes).

I need to change (I'm talking for the spanish version) the text to said "He is
coming" instead the plural "his party"?

Second:
At the start of the second level the game pop out this message: "Remember the
lessons you learned in Brana Hauk. [...]", I guess he is talking about
Eversmile, Right?
Both languajes have "Brana Hauk", so I prefer to ask before edit it.

Original comment by tempri2...@gmail.com on 23 Jun 2014 at 1:55

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Eversmile - in general, it's a party; but it consists of only one creature. I
don't think this should be modified. We may decide to make bigger party at some
point.

Cosyton - I agree, this should be changed to refer Eversmile.

Original comment by mefistotelis on 23 Jun 2014 at 3:26

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Oh, wait - Branahawk is what Eversmile becomes after first level is finished,
it is a correct name.
https://code.google.com/p/keeperfx/source/browse/trunk/keeperfx/lang/keeporig/la
ndview_eng.pot

Both english messages were okay (I must undo a change I made recently).

In the first secret level (where you need to kill your own imps) at the end the
game said: "You are indeed a twisted soul, master. You made the Imps extinct
with such panache that not one but two Dark Mistresses have devoted themselves
to helping you achieve your next goal. You may proceed to your next conquest."

Because only one appear (and only can be transferred one) I suppose that this
text needs to be changed to "one dark mistresses" (in both languages, unless
you have a plan for this).

Original comment by tempri2...@gmail.com on 3 Jul 2014 at 12:15

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I left it as two because I was thinking about implementing it; I think there's
another secret where you should also receive more than one creature.

Anyway, now I don't think it's a good idea to allow more than one creature
transferred. I was even thinking about making the transferred creature decrease
its experience level. Transferring even one creature is too much of a boost to
the player.

To conclude - I think this should be changed to just "Dark Mistress".

Original comment by mefistotelis on 3 Jul 2014 at 10:06

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Or simply add another Dark Mistress to the level script. Two creatures join
you, one can be transferred.

Original comment by markhvan...@gmail.com on 4 Jul 2014 at 12:13

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Ok, so for now I'm going to change to "1 dark mistress".

By the way. About text with traps.

A explanatory text appears when you research a new trap or door; For example:
"Your manufacturers have built an Alarm Trap. It will warn you of your enemies'
approach and summon nearby creatures to deal with the intruders."

But with the lava trap the text don't explain what the trap does.
"Your manufacturers have crafted the Lava Trap."

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Both new texts in r1242 have spelling errors:

1074 + msgid "Your manufacturers have crafted the Lava Trap. Afrer enemy creature steps "
1075 + "on it, the area around changes into molten lava, which most creatures won't even "
    1076 + "try to pass.

Afrer-> After

1260 + "panache that Dark Mistress have devoted herself to helping you achieve "
1261 + "your next goal. You may proceed to your next conquest.

have -> has
And this sentence makes more sense when it mentioned 2 mistresses. I would go
for:

"A Dark Mistress has devoted herself to helping you achieve your next goal. You
may proceed to your next conquest."

Original comment by Loobinex on 4 Jul 2014 at 10:07

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What about now?

I divided the mistress string into more sentences, hopefully it sound better.

Original comment by mefistotelis on 4 Jul 2014 at 10:41

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Better, but I still think you need the word 'A' to have a proper sentence,
since you've made it singular.

So "A Dark Mistress has devoted herself,..."

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
if I'm not mistaken the spell "cave in" doesn't have a "I green Flashing" text
like others spells.

Original comment by tempri2...@gmail.com on 8 Jul 2014 at 12:24

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
It is in guitext:91.

There is another thing with cave-in - I think it was supposed to change lava
blocks into earth - but that was never implemented. Manual says that directly,
and I think it is mentioned in messages too.

Original comment by mefistotelis on 8 Jul 2014 at 4:10

My bad. I searched for "cave in" and not "cave-in".

The guitext:733 said:
"Pick most experienced creatures: LMB Pick up creature. RMB Zoom."

Could be added you need "Control+LMB" to pick the most experienced.

I have some questions:

*
In poedit I see two lines:
Free Play levels [Menu interface item]
Land selection [Menu interface item]
In spanish both have "Deeper Dungeons"; What part of the menu in-game refers
those two lines?

*
In both Deeper Dungeons levels and "start new game" (original campaign and
others) the text "Deeper Dungeons" appears on the top (Look to the both
screenshots).
Where can I change the line "Deeper dungeons" for the "start new game" sub-menu?
(this is related with my previous point?)

*
When I Choose "Start new game" a list of campaigns appears, all in english
including the original.
Is possible translate to spanish the text of the original? (and if possible,
where)

*
I've almost finished the translation: The new lines, the more detailed
descriptions of traps/doors/spells, Sometimes I took the liberty to adapt the
text instead of literal translation...
Is ok if I Leave over 100 lines in provisional (yellow text)?
So if someone with better knowledge in english than me want to improve my
translations he can focus in all those new lines and detalied descriptions over
the official translation.

Main Menu strings are the following:
    343 360 346 941 345 347 716 431 359
I will mark them in the context description.
Basically, "Free Play levels" is main menu string, and "Land selection" is the
header in levels list screen.

You don't have to prepare "perfect" translation; as long as you have fixes, you
can send it to be included in the game. Strings can be marked as "fuzzy" for
future translators to verify.

Original comment by mefistotelis on 8 Aug 2014 at 5:27

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Understood, thanks.

Is possible have 2 headers?
For example, for Start new game: Header = Campains.
and for Free play levels: Header = Land selection.

Original comment by tempri2...@gmail.com on 8 Aug 2014 at 7:17

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I'm not sure if I understand.

Entries which are separate in POEdit - are separate and can be translated
differently. One entry can only have one translation.

For example, after my last update you will find two different "Main Menu"
strings - what differs them is the context explanation, and both can be
translated differently.

Original comment by mefistotelis on 8 Aug 2014 at 7:54

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Oh wait, I executed the game in english.

Now I see; when I click in start new game the text over the top is "Land
selection".
When I click in "Free play levels" the text over the top is "Free play levels".

I was confused because in Spanish the text over the top from both were the same.

Thanks, Now I know the line I must change.
