If I go to the "Explore" panel, the input box says "Search or enter feed URL", but if you enter a feed url it still searches for it. This both leaks the URL to Apple for no good reason, and results in you being unable to subscribe if iTunes can't resolve your URL to a podcast.
There is no reason why the podcast URLs you wish to directly subscribe to should be leaked to a 3rd party.
