Webcam (can't see myself) Latest SVN - LAUNCHPAD (UBUNTU HARDY 32 bit) #221

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install galaxium-svn from launchpad repository
2. try to open it (if your webcam has a sensor light on it, it will turn on
and back off)
3. try to view your own webcam, but menu item doesn't do anything. No error
message or blank window. Just nothingness.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I don't see anything, which is not what I expect. (I actually lol'd) I
should see my face as it seen with my own webcam.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
(you can run the "diagnose" script in the root directory of the Galaxium
sources to get a detailed report) Information in the summary line ^

Please provide any additional information below.

BTW, I did get the latest update to this SVN today morning (it was issued last
night
presumably) so I can assure you it is the latest version in the repository at
least.
Not sure about the actual source tarball.

There's some fixes for some webcams in r971 & r972, but you really shouldn't
expect
much until we actually finish writing it :)

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I'm hoping r976 will allow all webcams which work with gstreamer & cheese to
work
with galaxium.

Another thing to note is that you should make sure your display image is
visible in
the chat window before clicking 'Show My Webcam' for the moment, otherwise you
won't
see anything.

Can the Launchpad repository be updated also? Because I had trouble building and
compiling your tarball for some reason. (couldn't do 'make' and 'make install'
said
file/instructions were missing or something)

Yes, I already uploaded a new package which finished building a couple of
minutes ago
(https://launchpad.net/~galaxium/+archive/+builds?build_text=&build_state=all)

The repository usually gets updated every 20 minutes with the latest packages,
so
it'll probably be on the hour when you can get the new package.

Okay thats pretty good then. Oh and now.. the option to view my webcam is
grayed out.
Is it supposed to be like that?

Original comment by pgblue2...@gmail.com on 2 Jul 2008 at 12:52

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
It should be enabled so long as your webcam is detected and you're viewing a
chat
with someone using the MSN protocol (basically no Yahoo! contacts) who is
online.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Does being 'Away' count as online? Because I tried it with someone who was
"away" but
it was still grayed out. and it was an MSN contact.

Then thats a bug I'll look into tomorrow/later (it's almost 2am)

Okay so now I JUST updated to the latest SVN.
I get the option to view my own webcam now, and it the sensor light does come on
(flickers twice actually), but no window comes up showing the webcam. You're
getting
closer I grant you.

It's not a window right now, it should replace your display picture (but make
sure
you have your pic visible in the chat window when you click show webcam).
Eventually
there'll be a little button on the video inside the display pic area allowing
you to
open a bigger window.

Another problem. When I close the chat window, my light still stays on even
after
completely closing Galaxium. And when I try to initiate the "show my webcam"
again,
it doesn't work.

I know about that one, for some reason the event that tells us the widget has
been
destroyed doesn't get raised, so the webcam is left active until you exit
galaxium.
I'm working on it, just give me time :)

I use the galaxium-svn version for Hardy too (version 0.8 svn1004).

My webcam is a Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 (v4l2 API) and it seems no to be
recognized
in chats windows...

I use uvc trunk driver
(http://svn.berlios.de/viewcvs/linux-uvc/linux-uvc/trunk/) and
it allows my cam to work with aMSN.

Hope to see my cam working soon with galaxium that i love!

Does your webcam work if you run gstreamer-properties and click test under
video input?

If it does, could you show me the webcam related output when you start
galaxium? (Its
just before the main window shows up).

Any progress on Comment 14? I updated the SVN today but it didn't fix it. Just
letting you know.

Original comment by pgblue2...@gmail.com on 3 Jul 2008 at 9:54

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Yes I thought I'd fixed that already (int r994), at least here when I close the
window my webcam is no longer kept active.

Original comment by paulburt...@gmail.com on 3 Jul 2008 at 9:59

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Yeah that works. But there still is a problem where if I don't have my own
display
picture in the window, the webcam doesn't work and I can't try to use it again
until
I restart Galaxium

Yeah I know it won't work without the display image visible, I will fix that
soon. I
have a lot of changes to make to the code to allow one device to be reused
multiple
times without problems.

Bug reports for features that are not complete yet, is a bit fruitless.

If you are looking for a stable environment, please use the releases that come
out
through debs or tarballs.

Webcam is not even implemented yet really. So we are going to keep these issues
closed until its actually ready.
