Thunderbolt isn't supported. I haven't tried any external displays. Maybe HDMI over USB-C could work, not sure.

Is there a way to drive the Thunderbolt interface?

Is there a way to drive the Thunderbolt interface?

Thunderbolt 3 should be natively supported (except for hot-plugging). On my XPS 9570, I have to plug my Thunderbolt device in at the bootloader OS select screen. If I plug it in at any other time (i.e. before power-on, at the desktop aka hot-plug, etc.) it doesn't work.

I need to do more testing but I have tried a usb-c monitor just plugging it in and having it plugged from the start. Not tried at bootloader yet but can give that a go.

I have an usb keyboard and mouse plugged into the monitor as it has a hub and they work.

Any suggestions of things to try?

Just to confirm. Not working with included USB-C to HDMI adapter. System would crash and reboot when HDMI is plugged in if the adapter was attached to the right side USB-C port. it does nothing if attached to the left side Thunderbolt ports.

After reading this I tried plugging into right hand side from boot up still didn't work but when I pulled it out it crashed.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to try? Rescanning the USB ports with the monitor plugged in? The generate a new plist or would it be SSDT?

thefiredragon commented 3 years ago

USB-C Display Port is working without issues, don't have a HDMI device at the moment

paddyjoneill commented 3 years ago

So you have a USB C to display port cable and that works fine? Is this on Catalina or Big Sur?

thefiredragon commented 3 years ago

I'm on Big Sur, yes it's DisplayPort Cable to Dell UHD Monitor

paddyjoneill commented 3 years ago

Got hold of a USBC to Displayport cable but still not working on Catalina. I'll try and do Big Sur at some point.

You could compare your config with mine in my repo under deviceproperties

Just tried your repo, and to confirm that even 5K LG ultrafine works as it was intended to work. everything includes the built-in camera and speakers. didn't test the downstream USB ports but is safe to assume that they work because the web-cam and speakers work off the internal downstream USB port.
