Interesting, but I don't think this should be a default behavior after inserting a link, instead it might be an explicit "external link preview widget".

BTW, there is a "include note" widget which is conceptually similar thing for referencing internal notes - it includes the whole note into a page. It would make sense to also include the option "include first paragraph only" to have similar thing for notes.
I would recommend showing link previews in a box (like in medium), when a link stands alone without text around it. And I think it should also be able to turn off this feature in the settings.
