is Windows removing asserts in your default build?

Yes, I dropped testing the debug build after adjusting in those asserts. Thanks.

Off-topic: I like how your raytracer project is coming along.

Thanks - the raytracer is a project I started many years ago that I decided to cleanup and modernize. I still have a long list of features I want to add so that's where I've been spending most of my development time recently.
