Brand New player - I just keep dieing! what am i doing wrong?

Hey all, I'm a brand new player to this game and I've been wanting to play it for a long time. Finally I found 1.5 and I got it all setup and working... and now I'm just frustrated. I made a Knight, killed some goblins & orcs, got to lvl 31 and cant seem to kill lycans, skeletons etc... i just sit there swinging and swinging, and just spamming my heal potions cause they are just destroying me. (I do have the armor and sword on that is in your inv when you start.) So I decided to make a Royal and try that.. same thing!! Why cant I kill anything? I've tried to farm orcs and goblins for gear, so i can actually kill stuff, but nothing drops. I cant get over lvl 31, which I actually obtained by just attacking the training dummies, hoping that would help me kill stuff, but it doesn't. What am I doing wrong? or is it just insanely difficult? because walking extremely slow, attacking something and just sitting there swinging and swinging while monsters start to swarm you and then u die. well thats just not fun!

Hello, You should be able to make progress killing the orcs and goblins. I'll create a new character and see if there are some adjustments I can make to make this part of the game easier.

I've made all the monsters in -betanoob weaker, easier to kill, so you should use less potions on them. Additionally I multiplied their experience by 10 making it easier to make progress hunting this zone until you're strong enough to handle hunting the harder locations. Additionally I'll be boosting their adena drop rate and working on updating the starter items a bit.
