Let's say we've got the almost perfect map we want to show our friends, of all the wonderful places where we went collecting cell towers:
But we want to zoom out just a tiny bit more to include Larry and Jimmy's houses,
Gasp... now the map is in Blob Mode.
So it would be great if there was a Preference, that would allow us to keep Dot Mode, even at zoom levels that the author doesn't recommend.
