Improve tests for core

This PR does the following:

• expose some test utility functions in the core that can be used in any module for testing purposes (this avoids a lot of copy and paste)
• rewrite old tests that were disabled during the refactoring phase for Trifid v5
• fix an issue with the static plugin included in the core, where root path was not supported as expected in some cases
