Hello @alensiljak, this is definitely something we should improve. Not exactly sure what to do in all cases but at least it could be visible on the map. Could you please link here examples of entities that are using different approaches if you find them? Ideally one from each kind. I will check these cases and think what we can do about it.
Thanks 🙏
Here is a cliff
with all kinds of useful information for a crag:
Here is a way
, a climbing route:
I've already added it to a crag relation but I run into these every now and then when editing an area. Will add the next one here later, without adding it to a new relation.
And a node
for climbing=route_bottom
that I've also already added to a crag.
Here's a theme park
playground=climbing_wall
Many of these locations have sport=climbing
and this is how I can find them in OsmAnd.
Just a node with sport=climbing
. A beautiful crag, apparently.
The crag next to it is just bare rock:
Thank you very much! 🙏 I will take a look.
Here are some routes that are not part of any relation.

I will create a crag now and add them. But would be nice to be able to identify, to help out in the process.
There are also some climbing=boulder
in OSM, that don't get rendered:
Thanks for mapping of entities @alensiljak 🙏. There are too many items in OSM with all these tags, so we can't just show them all from overpass query. We need to have database in between so this PR is the opener for this issue.
And actually you can check preview that there are already more data (and it's still not all of them).
Hi! As I'm adding crags and sites, I notice that many are already on the map, just using all kinds of different tagging schemes.
climbing=crag
sport=climbing
are the most common. Do you think it would be a good idea to include these tags? Possibly with some indicator to show that the tagging is "not ideal", so that it can be adjusted. It would certainly help people mapping this correctly. And it would also add a lot more climbing locations. This would be useful for some transition period. But perhaps also continuously, so that the incorrect tagging can be fixed in the future.
