Sonar use for ardupilot #775

Feature that you'd like us to add or change you'd like us to make:
Barometric altitude can change drastically throughout the day (if you can fly 
for more than 20 mins) thus auto landing will be almost impossible without a 
more accurate method.  Can the sonar (or laser range finder) be activated if 
the altitude from the sonar is within its limits and overrides the barometric 
altitude (and resets it to actual altitude, which would be better).  Also allow 
for barometric altitude to be reset in flight (based on local pressure).

please check the diyd forums. sonar has been tested and found not ver effective 
at higher speeds/ surface texture etc

can we use the sonar module to trigger a servo like a retract system(wheels) at 
landing ? thanks!

If it isn't accurate, as stated, I suspect you would be better served by 
triggering the resets based on APMs current altitude sources (GPS/baro).
