I have exactly same problem. I tried to reload config bin file which was saved
in previous snake-os release then ftp started working but the opkg service
doesn't work then.

Should be fixed in svn.
As a temporary workaround you can ssh/telnet into the box and run this to fix
up the password of an account:
echo <ftpuser>:<password> | chpasswd -m

Thank you Stefan for your workaround - it is working!
Nevertheless, I couldn't log in to the ssh/telnet. apparently the admin
password changing in the website does not affect the ssh/telnet password (it
used to be like that in the previous releases) so finally I logged in with the
default admin/snake password.
Thank you all for the great work!
Kobi.

Ok after successfully enabling FTP, I found out that there is a File transfer
problem. It reminds me Issue 11 that was fixed in the previous version.
http://code.google.com/p/snake-os/issues/detail?id=11
The problem appears only in wireless-connected clients (e.g. Laptop
downloading/uploading files from the SnakeOS ftp over wifi connection) but not
on the wired-connected clients (over Ethernet).
Luckily this problem DOES NOT occur in samba file transfer, even over wireless.

Hi, I'm on snakeos-V1.3.2-20111007-from-snake (NS-K330) and can't FTP (wireless
n), Linux Mint (LMDE). I'm new to Telnet but I eventually succeeeded in
telnetting the device. I enter the command suggested by Stefan in comment 2 as
is:
echo <ftpuser>:<password> | chpasswd -m
and I get:
-sh: syntax error: unexpected "|"
Should I use my real ftpuser ID and real new password in the command or the
error I get could have a different origin?
Samba works over wireless. I haven't tried FTP over ethernet yet.
Regards

Yes, replace <ftpuser> and <password> with the ftp user ID and password. Sorry
if that wasn't clear.
@magn...
The root password issue is fixed in svn. It's the same thing that broke ftp
users. My attempt to save a few bytes by disabling long options in busybox sure
backfired..
If more of these crop up I'll just reenable them.. it's not worth the trouble.
I'll check out the wireless issue. I can't really think of any changes that
could trigger that though. Vsftp, kernel and the network settings should be
identical to the previous 1.3.2 release.

Thank you Stefan for your quick answer. Problem solved:
1.- I entered in telnet
myrealftpusername:myrealnewpassword | chpasswd -m
As a matter of fact it is NOT my NEW password. It's been the same all the time.
I am over wireless (Dell Inspiron 1721 internal wireless n)
I can FTP my NS-K330 from Firefox and from Nautilus.
2.- After that, I entered a new FTP user on the web interface (another computer
at home) in this case over ethernet. No connexion. Then I entered the command
in point 1 in telnet (same user and password as in the web) and I can FTP to my
NS-K330.
I haven't tried any other functionality but transmission, for exemple, works
(only tried wireless).
Very happy.
Thanks again Stefan and if you need any help ...
Josep

I had the same FTP password issue and it is fixed with the solution provided.
But now, i am unable to "PUT". I get a message saying i have no permission.
"GET" works fine. BTW, write is enabled in the share.

Hi Stefan,
I have just upgraded to snakeos-V1.3.2-20111007-from-snake and now FTP client
on my ip camera could not login to FTP video stream. I suspected it is due to
password issue. I attempted to telnet to execute the work around but keep
getting incorrect login. Could you offer a way to overcome?
By the way, I upgraded to the latest firmware is because the FTP on earlier
version failed to work when ftp files received added up close to 1GB. Any
offer to resolve this?
Thanks.
