Need to figure out how to create functions in python, then move some functionality from the monolith file to to separate files.

Not sure if it's "the right way", but have started to do this a bit. Needs more work still, but closing this. Not worried about creating documentation for this part, as that is less specific to this project and fall into the more general "learn python".
