Hey @MarcusSarnes! I'm here to help you with any bugs, questions, or contributions you have in mind. Let's tackle this Zen Mods installation issue together!

A similar issue was reported and has been closed. The issue was titled "You need to have Zen Browser installed to install this theme, Download now!" the text appears. The suggested solution was that the problem should be fixed now. You might want to ensure that your Zen Browser is updated to the latest version to see if this resolves the issue.

@dosu I must have missed that issue report i could not find it when i was searching.

however, the bug seems very much still active, since i installed Zen today and the bug was there, and the other issue was closed 3 weeks ago.

I am on the latest version, so it's not about that either.

TLDR: even with the closed issue for the same problem, the bug still occurs.

If the issue persists despite the previous fix, it might be worth checking if there are any specific dependencies or configurations that could be affecting the detection of the Zen Browser. Ensure that all necessary dependencies are correctly installed, such as org.freedesktop.Platform, org.freedesktop.Sdk, org.mozilla.firefox.BaseApp, and org.freedesktop.Platform.ffmpeg-full, all with version 23.08 [1].

Additionally, consider checking if there are any environment variables or system paths that might be incorrectly set, as these could affect the browser's recognition. If everything seems correct and the issue still occurs, it might be helpful to report this as a new issue, providing detailed information about your setup and any relevant logs that could assist in diagnosing the problem.

@dosu As this is happening on a fresh install, i dont think that anything should be setup incorrectly. i have done nothing else to the browser, but this is still happening.

I would also give a log output, but i have no idea how to get that, and i can't find any documentation on how to do so.

To obtain the log output for Zen Browser, you can open Zen's developer console. This console will display all the logs and errors that Zen is generating, which can be useful for diagnosing issues. You can typically open the developer console using the browser's developer tools, which can usually be accessed with a keyboard shortcut like Ctrl+Shift+I (or Cmd+Option+I on macOS) or through the browser's menu. Once open, you should see the logs and any errors related to Zen Browser [1].

Could you provide more details about the specific Zen Mod you are trying to install? Additionally, are there any network restrictions or security settings on your system that might be affecting the browser's ability to access external resources? This could include firewall settings, VPNs, or proxy configurations.

MarGustafsson commented 2 days ago

@dosu it's not a specific mod, it's all mods i've tried looking at. I dont think i have any special firewall settings, I dont have a VPN on, so i don't think that's the issue either.

dosubot[bot] commented 2 days ago

Have you tried clearing the browser cache or disabling any browser extensions that might interfere with the mod installation process? Additionally, are there any specific error messages or warnings in the console when you attempt to install a mod, beyond the ones you've already shared?

MarGustafsson commented 2 days ago

@dosu i disabled all the extensions i had gotten after importing, and then i could install the mods.

i was using vue devtools, 1password, and ublock origin, if that helps.

MarGustafsson commented 2 days ago

just to add, i tried them individually, and specifically it seems that it's the 1Password extension that causes this to happen.
