zencq / NomNom

NomNom is the most complete savegame editor for NMS but also shows additional information around the data you're about to change. You can also easily look up each item individually to examine its attributes, independently of a savegame, or get other useful information that are not related to a specific savegame (but enhanced if one is loaded).

[Bug] Windows Fresh Install Gets Tall Empty Box and Doesn't Function #202

Open CyberDocFP opened 4 weeks ago

CyberDocFP commented 4 weeks ago

Description

Same bug as 115, 155, et al.

Reproduce

Same process as described there.

Expected Behavior

Program should autofind NMS Saved Games after first opening of NomNom

Files

Additional Context

Other bug reports were "closed" without detailed solution. Some people said to go to NomNom Settings and enter the save game path. I tried that and wasn't allowed to "Apply", so the info didn't stick. Some people said to edit portable.config to make sure the folder for NomNom.exe was correctly identified. This didn't work for me. Some people said "I changed some stuff" without specifics. What I did worked for me:

In portable.config, the line for the save path had no info (i.e, didn't point to the folder with my saves). It looked like:

I added the location my NMS save game files, so the line then looked like this: C:\Users\*MyAcctName*\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS\st_*17digitSteamAcct* Saved the file, re-opened NomNom and it worked! Hope this helps.

I'm aware of this but don't really know why the auto detection doesn't work (or maybe it's just a visual thing). It will no longer relevant when the marked milestone is published so no further time will go into this. That's the reason the other issues got closed but I'll leave this open until then.
