Screen goes black after a while. #58

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Stay connected and use the VNC for a while.
2. In "Fit to screen" mode
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should continue to work, but instead after a while the whole screen
goes black. The connection is still there, and if I move the mouse using
the phone, it moves the mouse cursor in the PC. So it's just the screen
that goes black. Switching between 1:1 and Fit to screen didn't help.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest in market. 0.2.2. I uninstalled the previous version before
installing this.

Please provide any additional information below.
This issue was NOT there in 090131. The VNC session is to a Fedora 9
machine and I'm connecting to the actual desktop (server gets data from
Xframebuffer?)and not a separate VNC server running in the background.

Probably something wrong when it's blanking "invalid" tiles--

What are the pixel dimensions of the desktop you are accessing?

Thanks

Mine works fine until I pan near the edges of a 1680x1050 desktop. Then the
screen
turns green. :(

The green indicates a certain kind of interaction with the vnc server; the
viewer has asked the server to
resend part of the screen it missed before. Most servers will honor this and
the screen will repaint with
the right data. Sometimes the request is lost. Some servers (notably OS/X)
seem to ignore this request.
What server were you using?

The server is running on Windows XP.

I have several other XP servers with smaller screen resolutions that seem to be
working fine. I will run some tests with other resolutions on the server that
is
giving me problems.

More info...

Using 1680x1050 resolution on an external monitor connected to my laptop:

- Initial display has some black patches. I am using 1:1 scaling.
- I can pan down to about 80% of the vertical screen with no problems, but when
I
get to the lower 20%, the entire screen goes green. As I move the mouse
around,
some areas get refreshed. Also, if I move the mouse on the server or move
windows
around, the areas get refreshed. However, if I scroll back down the screen, it
goes
green again.
- Note that the same happens when I pan right to about the 70% width of the
screen.

A feature that might help this scenario is a "Screen Refresh" command on the
VNC app.

Resolution switched to primary laptop display of 1280x800:

- Significant black patches on initial display.
- No green areas. Can pan to full extent of screen.

In summary, it might not be an issue with the large desktop as much as dealing
with
systems that have multiple displays at different resolutions.

Exact same results as DarenM on a desktop with only 1 monitor @ 1680x1050.
Changed
res to 1280x800 & 1024x768, both with initial 90%+ black screen but no green.
Difficult to use due to initial black screen, no difference between scaling
modes.

UltraVNC 1.0.8.0 on Vista64 Ult.
AndroidVNC version 5 (according to App info on phone, installed from market
today).

I too have the same issue as DarenM and amatten on one of my PC #1, the screen
turn
green. My PC #1 has 1 monitor only running 1680x1050, with Ultravnc 1.0.8.0 and
mirror driver installed. However, my PC #2 with same screen resolution, with
Ultravnc
1.0.2 run nicely with android vnc.

I am a Motorola Milestone user.

Thanks for all the information you guys have sent on this issue. I'm working
on an
update that should help with the VNC servers that don't resend missed updates.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Android VNC 0.4.1 (From Market)
2. UltraVNC Server 1.0.8.2

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I was using Android VNC 0.4.1 w/ UltraVNC Server 1.0.6.5 for the longest time
but had to upgrade the
server version due to occasional lockups of the server. Version 1.0.8.2 fixed
the lockups but now
Android VNC is unusable due to the screen turning all green when you pan
outside of the original area
displayed after downloading the first frame.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Versions mentioned above. Ultra VNC Server runs on Vista with no change in
settings between the
versions. I am running Android OS that is stock on the Sprint HTC Hero.

Please provide any additional information below.

Have the green issue as well. The computer is running Windows 7 Basic connected
to my
tv with a 1920x1080 resolution. Running Ultra VNC. Same issues others are
reporting you
can see the initial load but then after you pan around a bit entire screen
turns green.

Would love to have this working, please fix :)

Can you recommend a vnc server that properly resends missed updates? Also
what's your guess on when this problem will be resolved on the viewer?

This is now fixed in 0.4.5. It no longer uses tiling unless you have a very
large display (greater than 1920x1200 on older phones, larger i.e. dual monitor
on newer phones)-- and Force full screen bitmap might work even with very large
displays

I'm leaving the remaining green screen issue (120) open to track remaining
tiling problems on those very large displays.
