Reduce complexity in stream.read(), add argument support to dir #13

Thanks for this PR but you based it on the « master » branch, which is outdated (i use « dev » branch currently). It was planned to be merged tomorrow and in it io streams were re-worked (but still complex). So once it’s done (tommorow) you’ll be able to base your code on the newly updated « master » branch tomorrow.
