Attempting to open the rename dialog on file with a "double underscore" causes a crash #22

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. create a file (not fully explored which types)
2. name the file "a__b"
3. open the data name check box.
4. Press rename

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should automatically remove the excess underscore in the suggested new name. 
Instead it crashes.
