What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create a connection file to an SDE GDB in ArcCatalog and store it in its
default location in ArcCatalog's virtual "Database Connections" folder
2. Open the Data Name checking tool. Try and check the names of the contains of
this GDB, or use the Clause lookup tables store within the GDB. Path:
"Database Connections\Connection_to_192.168.1.14.sde"
The Data Naming Tool will fail to recognise the GDB or its contents.
3. Copy the connection file to a "normal" location in the file system; eg path:
"D:\MapAction\temp\Connection_to_192.168.1.14.sde"
Everything will work fine.
4. The ESRI special folder are in fact stored in the user profile. It is
possible to browse that folder an open the connection file:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\ESRI\ArcCatalog\Connection_to_192.168.1.14.sde"
Everything will work fine.
