I experience this problem too with Apple Earpods (they are 4-pin, I think this
is important), however it's working fine with another jack output. The same
earphones worked fine on stock firmware.

I forgot to mention that it's possible to hear very subtle noise for a while,
so the hardware gets connected.
Here's output from logcat for plugging cable in and out:

SWITCH_STATE=65280, DEVPATH=/devices/virtual/switch/h2w, SEQNUM=6001,
ACTION=change, SWITCH_NAME=Device Unknown}
E/WiredAccessoryManager( 624): No state change.
V/WiredAccessoryManager( 624): newName=Device Unknown newState=0

I can confirm this bug.
It seems to be related only to 4 pin phone connectors (adapters solve this bug).
The app soundabout can force the output via audio jack (though the headset
still remains undetected, viper4android recognizes it as phone speaker).
