Safety Certification #39512

Good morning! I have worked with Zephyr before and it is hands down one of my favourite RTOSes out there. I was looking to see if there was any sort of safety certification that you have for functional safety?

I saw this article that was written in 2019 that spoke briefly about the move that was being made to be certified (https://www.zephyrproject.org/zephyr-project-rtos-first-functional-safety-certification-submission-for-an-open-source-real-time-operating-system/) I was wondering if anything came of it, and where I can read more about your certification levels etc.

Thank you! You folks are amazing!

Hi @eden-desta! Glad to hear about your interest in Zephyr and safety. Yes the Zephyr Project has been making progress towards a certification ready, "auditable code base". There is a Safety Committee that meets weekly to drive this work (which is a closed group to Platinum and Silver members). I'm the Safety Architect for the Project and would be happy to set up time to chat and give you some more details if you're interested. There is not a lot of documentation published publicly on this :)

Hi There,

Is it possible to contact you directly somehow to get some more info on this?

fkromer commented 2 years ago

This article published on 09/11/2021 states:

The second long-term support version will be submitted for IEC 61508 certification in the next year or two.

@eden-desta, just an FYI, but we are working on establishing a Safety Working Group that shall be open to all interested individuals who wish to advance the Zephyr codebase to a safety auditable state. The scope of this working group is still being debated. I'll update this item after resolution.

Hi @AmberHibberd!!! Is the path to a qualification according to 26262 and/or 61508 still a hot WIP? Any advancement that can be publicly shared?

jjcreniers commented 1 year ago

Hi @AmberHibberd & @dleach02, are there any updates regarding the advances toward ISO26262?
