Whilst it cannot be denied that a plant might cease to be once you eat it, it's clearly not the same thing as snuffing out an animal. Plants live by the seasons, they propagate by ..., they don't have nervous systems nor brains like animals, they don't express emotions that we can anthropomorphise. It cannot be denied that plants might react to it but the fact is we don't know. We do know, however, that animals close to us--like cows--appear to feel pain as we do.
"I'm a vegetarian. But I do eat fish"
They might be difficult to identify with but they still appear to experience panic and terror: emotions we know full well as humans.
"Veggies are killing plants"
