This code is in very early stages and needs lots of refactoring and testing. Was just trying to get the basics working. Wanted some general feedback on just the approach @InsertCreativityHere @externl so opening this as a draft. Anyone is free to commit to this PR or anything while I am gone.

@InsertCreativityHere @externl This PR is ready for its first pass of review. Cleaned it up a bit, did some testing, and fixed some bugs. Still could probably be a bit cleaner and needs additional testing.
