There were changes in handling of $HOME in zrt On the other hand, using implicit $HOME dir is kind of "undefined behavior", so, maybe leaving it as absolute path will be ok.
Okay, I'll just close this then.
On some (presumably older?) deployments of ZeroCloud, having the leading slash was resulting in scripts failing--not only failing, but also showing no output or errors.
Honestly, I have no idea what the root cause is. It doesn't seem to be an issue on Zebra.

Update: regardless of the root cause, the leading slash isn't actually needed anyway.
