I don't think we'll block thirdpersonshoulder completely as there are
legitimate uses for it as infected (checking if you are clipping through walls,
or playing jockey since the view you see out of is already like 2ft above his
head). This is also something more for leagues to deal with than Confogl. If
the league says no third person and you think someone on the other team was
using it, file a dispute. It is not the job of Confogl to enforce every rule
of every league/tournament (even if we do try to enforce some anyways). Any
league is free to release their own set of configs just like ESL and CG-A which
can enforce this. Talk to the league administration about having it added to
their config.

Problem is, even without cam_collision you can clip through walls, I wrote a
simple script altering a cvar controlling the position of the thirdperson
camera that lets you look basically everywhere on the map, you can look far
ahead in the map, behind, on high rooftops and so on.
Hell, you can search half the map for items before the game even started, for
example as survivor you could look around in every room of the Hotel on Dead
Center during ready up.
I have never used it in real game, as it really feels like cheating to me, I
only did it for testing purposes... this was also when I started to dislike
thirdperson even more then before.
And why should it be the job of a league? Shouldn't "casual confogl players"
also benefit from this, like from other cvar restrictions you already put in
place?
The most legitimate use of third person I can think of is playing boomer in
third person because he looks so funny, but really, mostly it is just used to
gain an advantage, that shouldn't be possible.
Theres a reason why the command thirdperson is cheat protected in all source
engine games.
Too bad VALVe added the thirdpersonshoulder command in L4D1/2 and forgot to put
the chat flag on it...

I think what CanadaRox means is that it's simply enough to add to your
confogl.cfg that server admins, league admins, etc, can add it to their config
very easily. We do not believe in restricting thirdpersonshoulder completely,
so we will not add a complete block to our default config.
We could consider, perhaps, some limits on the distance cvars (cam, shoulder,
etc) which would restrict scripts like the ones you talk about.

Also see
http://www.cybergamer.org/forums/thread/170056/Should-thirdpersonshoulder-be-Ill
egal/ for some discussion on the issue. It's not "mostly used to gain an
advantage" as far as I can tell.

- "It's not "mostly used to gain an advantage" as far as I can tell."
Then why would it be used? To gain a disadvantage? Of course not.
Let's face it, it is used to gain an advantage normally, how often and and to
what extend differing from player to player.
Thirdperson just doesn't belong in an FPS like this... but meh, I tried what I
could. :d

Confogl supports blocking thirdperson shoulder. It's very simple to add it to
your config. There's no action needing to be taken by us.

I know that... but my server isn't the only one in the world.. nvm.

And your opinion on thirdpersonshoulder isn't the only one in the world either.
We've taken polling in a number of areas and nobody seems that adamant about
stopping it. See the cybergamer link. If I see some data otherwise maybe I'll
reconsider.
