Latest dumps bugged

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Download the english dump of Wikimedia, dated Oct 09 and newer.
2. Index and transfer the indexed article.bin onto the iPod Touch.
3. Open Safari and search for any article.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The output expected is the list of articles the search finds, but no
articles are found. Typing into the box results in the "loading circle" in
the time/battery bar for a second or two, but no results are displayed.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest cydia version, on iPhoneOS 3.1.1.

Please provide any additional information below.
Hardware: iPod Touch 1st Gen.
Even when the english version is bugged, the chinese version works fine.
Additionally, the last working version (forgot which) had only articles
starting from A-P working fine, Q+ onwards fails.
The latest completely working version is mid-Sept 09.
