Steps to reproduce:

I run VLC
I click the minimize button (I set it with Tweaks, will probably get rid of it though)
VLC disappears, the tray icon remains in the top-right corner
clicking the icon from the tray crashes the gnome session

workaround:

Confirmed. But it seems like this is an issue of upstream. I have tested other applications e.g. Pidgin, qBittorrent, etc. and they all work well.
