As you can see at
http://blog.chromium.org/2012/10/smarter-npapi-installs-from-chrome-web.html
and https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=153648, NPAPI isn't
present in Win8 and so there's no "fix" for this issue. Because NPAPI isn't
secure, this decision was made in the interest of safety. This extension, using
NPAPI in its current form, will never be able to work in Win8 (unless MS
shockingly makes a major change in philosophy).

Google: Please update the description of this extension in the Web Store to
indicate that it's incompatible with Window 8. I've had to hunt around to
finally find this page.
Please also find a different way to take screen shots. Maybe you could just put
the picture on the clipboard if NPAPI isn't available?

Search in chrome web store for "awesome screenshot capture", an alternative for
this plugin and windows 8 working.

Of course there are alternatives. But I don't trust any random extension, had
some bad experiences with 'Smooth Gestures' (injecting ads and tracking pixels,
(do not use it!))
I think that it would be easy for the developers of this extension to make it
work like all the other screen capture extensions: without NPAPI.
But this seems to not affect many people because most users just install
another extension and don't visit this issue-tracker (and don't know what an
issue tracking system is).
But anyhow, please notice this jingzhao@google.com and make us happy again!

Maybe I'm missing something but I think I got a very easy solution for this!
You have to start Chrome in Compatibility-Mode for Windows 7.
Go to
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/screen-capture-by-google/cpngackimfmof
bokmjmljamhdncknpmg
It's now possible to install! -> Install it.
Close Chrome, disable Compatibility-Mode and the Extension is still there and
working!
Does this work for you too?
Somehow, that doesn't seem right to me.. I've opened a thread at Google Groups
(http://bit.ly/11d2N7c) because I'm literally concerned that this is working.
Do you also see that this might be a security problem like I described at
Google Groups? Feel free to discuss the security-thingy at Groups to not
threadjack this issue.
