stop showing pin pad automatically when power button pressed.

Would it be possible to set the pin pad on the unlock screen to be displayed 
when the lock icon is swiped across instead of displaying automatically when 
the power button is pressed to view notifications. 

At the minute pressing the power button while the phone is in sleep mode 
automatically displays the pin pad on top of the notifications which seems a 
bit stupid seen as I'd want to see them not the pin pad. 

If it's at all possible could an option to turn this option on or off be added 
in the advanced options so users who like it like this don't have to change it?

If there's a setting I have turned on that causes this please let me know if so.

Lock screen widgets do not have the ability to control this behaviour. Some 
custom ROMs do provide this option though.
