I keep trying to use the chrome app for telegram on my computer. I put my phone number, which can receive SMS into it and it spits out this.

Error You don't have a Telegram account yet, please sign up with Android / iPhone first.

Method: auth.sendCode Result: {"_":"rpc_error","error_code":400,"error_message":"PHONE_NUMBER_APP_SIGNUP_FORBIDDEN"}

Is it because I have a flipphone and not a smartphone? Is there some other way to get an account? Is this a problem with the chrome app? Please help?

You don't have a Telegram account yet, please sign up with Android / iPhone first.

you can also try TDesktop, but I'm not sure it'll work.
