A good boost for boardwalk would be optifine. Can you integrate it? If you could do it I could help you with the settings. Ive been using it for some time and I know the best configuration.

Would optifine help? I'm not sure if it supports OpenGL 1.X...

I think it does. I used it in a 2008 netbook with an intel gma.

OptiFine Light is completely support in Boardwalk 1.2, Minecraft 1.7.10.
