Problems with autodetection of Huawei 220 3G modem #318

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Plug the HUAWEI 220 3G USB modem in one of the USB ports of the Asus WL500gp
v1 router
2. Turn the WL500gp v1 router on
3. Set Configuration (APN, etc.) :
 - Set as WAN Connection Type by default : Yes
 - Zero CD Configuration : Auto
 - Autodetect device : Yes

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The modem should connect automaticaly after the router is turned on. In some
cases it works this way. In other cases the light on the 3G modem keeps flashng
and the modem not connect. If I look in the log on the routerI can see : modem
with dataport: 1.0/2.0 not found.

I need to click on the - View connected modems - button, then I can see the
Huawei modem. I have to select it manualy and then hit the - Finish - button.
The the modem connects. It seems, than sometimes the modem is recognized with
different numbers than the last time.

What version of the product are you using?

WL500gp v1 router running 1.9.2.7-rtn-r4051
Huawei 220 modem : VID/PID 12d1 1003

Please describe more exactly situation when the data and the user port are
changed. What are you doing before? Was the modem unplugged? May be the power
problem exist?

Please attach http://my.router/Main_SysInfo_Content.asp and syslogs in operable
and nonoperable states.

Hello and thanks for the reply.

I am truly sorry, but there I have to change some things in the descritption.
First I do not have a Huawei E220 modem but Huawei E160 modem. The
autodetection of the modem now seems to be working Ok. The last 5-10 times I
turned the router On/Off everything worked as expected. But then I pluged the
modem in a Windows 7 computer, used it for a half hour and then plugged back to
the Asus WL500gp v1 router again and switched the router On.

The modem seems to be recognized well, BUTT still do no want to connect. The

So I think the Bug-descritpion should be changed to : Problems with
autoconnection of Huawei e160 3G modem. I am attaching the Diagnostic
Information file as requested. You can see lot of errors in the PPP chat log
section. To be sure it is not s problem with the modem or connection I plugged
the modem in to my Ubuntu 11.10 machine and was able to connect to the network
just fine.

I very appreciate your help. The auto-connection function is very important
for me. I have a very sick dad and I wanted to provide him some internet
connectivity in the hospital. He wont be able to do any setting in the
interface, I has to work out-of-the box.

That is autodetect works correctly, but there is a problem with connection...
Look at http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Huawei_E160 . In this article an
additional init string "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 +FCLASS=0" is present. It may be one of
reasons of unstable modem work. Try to add this string in the field "Additional
AT commands:" at http://my.router/Advanced_ConnectionMode_Content.asp (and
press finish/save).

Also it is very useful to compare connection files from Ubuntu and from our
firmware. First of all file /tmp/ppp/peers/wan0_chat.
