Following a new user results in the window getting spammed

Right now when you follow a new user, the next update cycle will spam all of their recent (or not-so-recent, if they don't tweet frequently) tweets to the window. I just recently followed @twirssi and wound up seeing tweets from even early 2009.

There is almost certainly a decent way to filter out stale tweets so that they don't show up after the follow. Perhaps not showing tweets that are either more than max(1 week, interval since last successful update) old?
