I've been very happy to use ctds in a few projects and I like it a lot. It exactly met my needs (particularly for bulk data loading) at a time when the other popular projects (like pymssql and the official Microsoft adapter) had uncertain status and/or lacked features. Another part of what brought me to ctds was this Zillow article about Open Source software at Zillow Group.
However because it has been more than 2 years since the project has been substantively updated (and around that time there were significant layoffs at Zillow), it seems likely that this project is no longer actively maintained or perhaps it is looking for a maintainer. I think it's important to advise users about this on the project home page and in the docs.
At this time it seems unwise to use ctds in a new project without some idea of its current status.
