Thanks for the informative post, Nicholas, and the follow up on hardware updates.
I'm curious if you've ever had issues with your home connection while abroad, whether due to ISP issues, electricity/power outages, or anything else. Could something happen which would require someone to be physically present at the home router in order to fix it? If so, how would you address this? Is there a back-up VPN strategy which you would employ as a temporary solution?
Tripstoworld, I suggest that people put a backup router like a Brume 2 at a family members, friends, in-laws, etc…
Some of my clients have as many as 4 endpoints in places like that so they always have access no matter what.
Of course if you can do that then yes you need to have a friend or someone that could access your place to restart it or something.
Hey Nicholas/zippyy! Thanks a million trillion for taking the time to put this up. What a mensch! I
was wondering if you might be willing to do a walk-through over skype or zoom to help me set this up...funnily enough i'm learning (very slowly) to be a network admin with the goal of transitioning to a career in cyber security, but I'm practically at an amoeba level of understanding with these things...
Of course I'd happily compensate you for your time! I just need a bit of help. Thank you so much!! (even if you decline, I think it's wonderful that you would take the time to share your knowledge and help people!!).
PS. Do you have any recs for gear to do this? GL AX-1800 Flint 1 or 2? I'm mainly using MS Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and Google Docs. I see that your article is about a yr old and I wasn't sure how much has changed. Thanks so much!!!
