Unable to load catalog. #446

Using Firefox 23.0.1 with appchan x 2.3.8, I appear to be unable to load the catalog.

Same here, updated to 2.3.8 but that didn't fix it.

The catalog fails to load for me too lately, and I'm seeing this (rather uninformative) error in the console: [19:07:32.886] TypeError: a is null @ https://static.4chan.org/js/catalog.704.js:1

Same issue here with the new version coughlesserchromeripoffcough of Opera 16.0.1196.62. Appchan X is version 2.3.8 as well.

Console reports these errors -

On an unrelated note, Zixaphir or whoever else manages the install page, could you please update your install instructions for Opera version 15/16+? Opera no longer has a place to install js to as far as I know, and it's being identified as Chrome now, so when you click to install it takes you to the google chrome store and you can't download from there. Solution - download and install https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en , go back to the chrome store, and install like how you would in chrome.

@Negima: Sorry, the install page doesn't get a whole lot of attention because of how silly github's "pages" infrastructure works. I'll get to it soon.

@ everyone else: I'm looking for a solution to this. As far as I can tell, its a bug with my code that disables all active page CSS.

Still doesn't work for me. @zixaphir did you see those comments? https://github.com/zixaphir/appchan-x/commit/94749422718c3b891a86e5b32db179f45dc976d3

Figured out the problem, for some reason unknown, under settings navigation > slideout navigation has to be selected as "compact" instead of "hide". Tried it on both chrome and firefox, has the exact same problems if "hide" is selected.

Maybe that helps.

Selecting compact appears to be a workaround for now.

Dumping console if dev needs the data.

under settings navigation > slideout navigation has to be selected as "compact" instead of "hide".

This brought back the catalog for me.

@IzzyData: your issue has a different cause than the one that has been fixed. I can't fix an issue I don't have any information on. As you can see from the comments posted, being able to report as much data as possible helps fix the issue. Saying "still broken" makes developers abandon projects. There are still some cases where the catalog doesn't load for me. In times where it fails I get TypeError: a is null @ https://static.4chan.org/js/catalog.704.js:1 (Not very descriptive as there are tons of vars called a on line 1).

My guess would be that some resource doesn't load in time, and that is most likely because of the ongoing CloudFlare problems in Europe. Probably best to wait until they fix their performance (https://boards.4chan.org/q/res/751223).

I've been plagued by this bug for almost a month (the "addEventListener of null" variant), so I decided to track it down. Turns out the Style module has a race condition with the catalog script inside the "iconPositions" function, more precisely on this line: $.add slideNav, $.id('boardNavDesktopFoot') Educated guess as to what's happening: #boardNavDesktopFoot contains the #settingsWindowLinkBot element that the catalog script needs; the $.add function temporarily removes the element from the DOM in order to place it inside slideNav, and that's when the catalog script fires its init function, which doesn't find the element and fails. Anyway, commenting out the line fixes the problem.
