Right now, it's very kludgey to do this, and frankly I often end up doing this on my laptop, using Python tools. My guess is that this could quickly become faster to write in Python than to update the IDL MITTENS -- nice developments that come from this could then be folded back into the population search, by IDL calling to Python?
I'd be interested in it being possible to run MITTENS on a single object that is user-supplied. I'm thinking of something like "we wanted test using a rotation period of 100 days and the ATM-CAM common mode" instead of the defaults.
