Looking at the example, it should be actually based on ncspm sample dataset. Currently you seem to have it in some latlon location. So I am afraid you need to redo it. I suggest:
g.region raster=elevation
r.in.usgs ... ned ...
r.in.usgs ... nlcd ...
the pictures show the process nicely, but maybe r_in_usgs_NED_multi_tile_comp.png is sufficient, just change it work with ncspm. You can also add nlcd picture.
