Makefile requires 'build' directory to exist

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.  Extract a fresh copy of luadbi-0.4
2.  Run 'make free'
3.  Fatal error: can't create build/dbd_common.o: No such file or directory

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Fatal error: can't create build/dbd_common.o: No such file or directory

"mkdir build" fixes it.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.4 on Ubuntu 10.04

Please provide any additional information below.
