Input Command Options #697

i find typing on a Keyboard cumbersome and time consuming. as someone with Real Life ATC experiance i found it frustrating to have to type commands

what i suggest are shortcuts like left click the Level on Label then only give the value on Keyboard, for example. or the same for Speed or fix or heading

BUT even better would be left click on a Label to select or move left click on a Label field to start command Input.scroll with middle button to select from drop down menu right click for info like cleared Level or cleared route or STAR/SID Speed heading etc

also a range bearing vector line would be a very useful tool that i could drag from anywhere on Screen to anywhere or stick on two planes , for example

lastly i would very much like to see a Minimum distance prediction between 2 ( or 3 ) planes selected

with These adjustments i could safely say this would be the best ATC game available. ( and i have played many )

obviously i have no idea about programming and if These adjustments are at all possible, but in my opinion These Features are a must if one is to attempt realism

just hoping this helps..great work so far..Keep on with the good effort!!

Hi @duggi4drew! I come from an environment in atc training where typing is the standard way to get things done, and can't imagine having to click my way through things and still being able to work quickly. For example, we could add scrolling lists or a wheel around the aircraft to select headings, but I personally don't think it would ever be faster or easier than typing "250" to choose that particular heading.

I know there are some places where the mouse is heavily used for inputs (such as EuroScope), but from all that I have heard, people actually seem to like that method less than having quick keyboard commands that can be done many at a time.

If the issue is about the need to go between the mouse to select aircraft and the keyboard to type the commands, I agree 100%, and you got me thinking so I did add #720 that would allow us to keep our hands on the keyboard without having to jump back and forth.

@erikquinn It's true that the mouse is heavily used in Euroscope, but that concept is better for simple things such as assigning squawks, temporary altitudes etc. Higher up at Centre/Control level, it's much more annoying to keep on clicking around. But when you are text based, aliases are the best things to have. I really don't think putting mouse controls for a game like this would be very useful.

especially if you're not using a mouse. I'm on a macbook and don't have a mouse, only a trackpad.

hi would assigning a heading by click and drag be possible? like the heading is the line drawn out on the screen. ref: ATC4Real http://www.bajasim.com/ATC4Real/pro/ or ATC interactive http://users.skynet.be/atcsim/

another idea is selecting the field on the label for input and then using the keyboard type the input like click on the level in the label and then type 50

another idea would be the possibility to assign rates of descent and climb for seperation and a STCA

but thanks for your response.

its great to be able to interact with developers and get the fell for their passion.

The ATC repository is being migrated to it's new home at https://github.com/openscope/openscope, and thus, all issues are being closed. If this is still an issue with the latest version of the sim (accessible at http://www.openscope.co), or is a feature you still think we are lacking, please reopen the issue at the new repo.

Please note that the vast majority of these issues have been copied to the new repository, or else are covered by other issues created there. See the below screenshot for what it looks like when your issue is known in the new repo:
