Cannot install plugin 2.2.0 into DokuWiki 2012-09-10 #6

I am trying to install the latest version (i.e. presumably 2.2.0) into DokWiki 2012-09-10. I get the following error message:

Konnte das Plugin https://www.dokuwiki.org/lib/exe/fetch.php?hash=bbb735&media=http%3A%2F%2Fh6e.net%2Freleases%2Fdokuwiki-openid-plugin-latest.tar.gz nicht installieren

(i.e. "could not install ...") Is this a known incompatibility? (I noticed elsewhere that the plugin version seems to tolerate even older versions of DokuWiki.) How can I obtain further diagnostic information and resolve the issue e.g. by perhaps employing an older version of the plugin. (Upgrading DokuWiki would be inconvenient at this point.)
