This might be for a specific controller issue as bluetoooth works fine on my device with a series S controller connected via Bluetooth https://github.com/zodttd/GammaSupportDocs/assets/164794137/3d8eee01-ce66-4720-b612-37e011dfb86f

Would like for my on screen buttons to stay on while a Bluetooth controller is connected.
for reference here’s the controller I purchased- it’s just a joypad and one or two buttons but works great on my iPad mini and makes up for poor movement with digital game pads on all emulators

Huh nvm I've never seen this before. Is there any benefit to using this instead of touch or standard controller?

It works fine, what Im asking for is to keep the onscreen buttons when a bluetooth controller is connected instead of going full screen and removing the on screen buttons when a controller is connected. I'd like to use both the bluetooth controller and the onscreen buttons at the same time.

Also curious....set player 2 to touch screen and see if the on screen controls come back
Oh, we're close. The onscreen buttons stayed on when I made player 2 touch screen but the only responsive buttons were the fasfoward and menu. the x,square, triangle and circle buttons werent responsive.
But at least some touch screen and my connected bluetooth joycon were able to work together somewhat.
Here's a video I made breaking things down, I struggled a bit since I only have two hands but at 4:07 you'll see I used another app that keeps onscreen controllers on and the buttons respond to me pressing the jump button while I use the joycon of my bluetooth controller.
I realize my use case is niche, but it helps my setup stay minimal.

This helps A LOT. Thank you for posting the information. This is probably a specific issue as retroarch is universal with almost anything at this point. I posted it in discord and tagged the developer with your issue. I would recommend hopping in that server with your video to better explain to him so he knows exactly the issue. It's a faster way of getting replies, if not he'll respond to you on here as soon as he's able to
I would join but the invite link to the discord server seems to be expired in the gamma app, I have 2FA activated on Discord too so I dont think its that.
