I have a Samsung and Cannon cameras I can donate to the cause. I need to investigate if they can be controlled by their USB connections.

I have a Samsung SC-X105L/XAA with a external "Sports Camera" that has a mini-rca looking AV plug.

I also have a Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH (10MP)

I also have a very old SiPix SC3300 (3.3MP) digital camera.

The canon looks promising using the Canon Hacker Development Kit. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Supported_Cameras http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SD1200

It looks like a good community is built up behind drone DYI photography, and they have done a lot of work on figuring out how to control old point and click cameras.

This is also a fun drone I stumbled across. (not DYI) https://www.wearechampionmag.com/lily-camera-drone-throw-it-air-activate-and-follow-you-around

Looks like Canon has the best hacker support. Nothing similar for Sony, sadly.
