I guess first question would be: Is there a need or will to promote this project? (some projects prefer not to be too known) If there is, who do we want to attract, users, programmers, etc...
Well, the current state is that there is no one to manage community. I've been developing ZoneMTA for some specific production targets and have not made any effort to raise awareness to build community. Luckily there are some active users answering support request questions now and then but that's about it. This is not encouraging for new users so the user base has stayed quite small because of that. If you are willing to step up and manage the community side then it would be great. I don't think that there is much need for core developers but it would be great to have people building plugins to extend the feature set of ZoneMTA. They can't do it without documentation so this side needs some improvements as well.
I'd be happy to give it a go. I'm passionate about Open Source and about FOSS Communities. This is a top-tier MTA (FOSS or not) and it deserves more attention.
I can write documentation, but I lack the programming skills required for building plugins. It would be easy for me to formalize that type of documentation if:
Or I can just focus on community and try to find the right people who can write those guides...
BTW, What about: https://github.com/zone-eu/zone-mta/tree/master/plugins Looks quite comprehensive to me, what needs to be added exactly to improve it or extend it?
I would like to join and promote the mta zone in the Russian market. We are not programmers, we can provide marketing support. I think it would be nice for you to create an alternative paid solution power mta. Let me know if you are ready to take us on your team.
Compared to PowerMTA, ZoneMTA is more like a framework which means that you have to modify it a lot (and write actual code) for it to be usable, so it is not a direct replacement for most PowerMTA users.
Hi guys, I wanted to help with documentation, I worked on the zone-mta-template documentation long time ago and wanted to see if I could be of any use again, I can help with either:
