Whoops, @brian-c, I thought I'd responded to this here. Thoughts from our conversations:
I definitely think people will want to go straight into the workflow editor instead of first defining a science case or description - or, really, even uploading many subjects.
Could we encourage them to either upload just a single subject to start (for the preview)? And that subject is then uploaded (or at least previewed in the builder)? At this point, the science team won't care about actual subject information for the placeholder, so whether this is a "real subject" or not is sort of irrelevant to the user.
I also think we need a way that people building projects can easily preview the workflow as they are building -- I think we were talking about having a preview on part of the screen with workflow editor on the side?
Maybe uploading a “non-subject,” but this is probably confusing to explain/display. Perhaps just displaying one of the subjects before it’s actually been imported (if import happens at the end). Or suggesting that users just upload a couple subjects the first time they build. Chances are users won’t care a whole lot about this image when they are first building.
We'll need a nice way of walking people through project creation.
A work in progress lives here: http://demo.zooniverse.org/panoptes-front-end/#/build/new-project
Maybe some wireframes could show how this should actually work? We probably shouldn't define the intro or description or science case immediately on creation. Maybe not even real subject uploading. People probably want to just straight into the workflow editor. Other thoughts, @aliburchard?
